Addendum to Student Aid Projects at Al-Madinah International University PDF Print E-mail

2. Endowment fund for expedited student loans

The University has proposed this program to help students of limited incomes who do not receive scholarships in order to allow them to purchase laptop computers. This is because their incomes are too limited to allow them to purchase a laptop for cash, and laptops are an essential tool for access to the type of education being offered by Al-Madinah International University; in fact, students must use laptops to participate in virtually any of the University’s educational activities.

Although Al-Madinah International University has striven to establish service centers that will give students access to computers as well as access to that international venue of information, the Internet, the coverage capacities of these centers cannot meet all the educational needs of the students, for they may need to use computers or access the Internet from their homes or the places of residence in order to complete their assignments to the required standard.

A computer of the specifications appropriate for studying by way of the Internet, of running the up-to-date programs used by the University, and of lasting the four years it takes a student to complete the study period of the University costs about RM 5,500 (five thousand five hundred Malaysian Ringgits), which is equivalent to about  1700 USD (one thousand seven hundred United States Dollars). The University would like to collect sufficient funds to provide laptops to approximately 200 male and female students across the Muslim world in 2008 CE.

The policy of this program is based upon facilitated loans. The student will take possession of the computer as a loan upon conclusion of a written agreement signed by both parties. The student will agree to make payments either on a monthly basis or once a semester, whichever option the student chooses. This will make it possible for the seed money to be recycled through the program for the further benefit of other students.

In addition to that, students will be eligible to receive special reductions of their monthly payments if they attain a high level of academic achievement and a high grade point average (GPA). If that high level is maintained, such that the student graduates with academic distinction, the entire value of the loan will be excused and the student will receive the computer as a gift upon graduation.

Al-Madinah International University, in proposing this benevolent project, hopes that you will respond and participate in it. Think of it like this: You will receive a reward for every word the student reads, learns or listens to by means of the device that this program will make available. We ask Allah, the Magnificent and Majestic, to multiply your rewards, raise your stations, and bless you in every aspect of your lives: your deeds, your wealth and your life-spans.
