Al-Madinah International University is striving to provide a full spectrum of the appropriate academic, instructional and administrative services required by students. In light of the operational efforts of the University to carry out its mission, the steadily growing number of students, and the breadth of the operational plan the University is trying to fulfill, the University is in pressing need of help from those of our brothers whom Allah has blessed with ample means in order to accomplish its goals, which, if realized, will yield benefit to the whole Muslim Ummah. The suggested projects in need of financing in this area are as follows:

First, developing and adding to the digital electronic library

A university library is one of the most important resources for a college education. For that reason, Al-Madinah International University has established an on-line electronic library which can be accessed by means of the Internet and used for all research purposes, or just reading or browsing, from anywhere in the world.

This library currently contains more than 3,775 works, including the major books of the Islamic sciences, the Arabic language, and contemporary knowledge. It is working towards making 100,000 titles available across a spectrum of fields within the next five years. The library operates according to the international indexing standards of major on-line libraries, including the US Library of Congress. The average total cost of digitizing a book of 50 pages and uploading it on the Internet is $100 (US dollars). This includes the cost of purchasing the book, digitizing, formatting and indexing it, reviewing the digitized product for quality control purposes, and, finally, uploading it on the Net. It is also worth mentioning that the University invites scholars and authors to disseminate their works through the Digital Library portal on the Internet. The University will pledge to honor all the universally recognized rights associated with writing and publishing. This will be a contribution from them to the dissemination of knowledge and learning among Muslim societies.

Second, helping to defray the expenses of the operations staff.

The operating expense of Al-Madinah International University for the current year, 2008, is $3,122,924 (US dollars). This includes salaries for the skilled staff and laborers, as well as general operating expenses such as the power used to run the equipment, Internet access charges, etc.

Considering how new the University is, it is in need of support to cover operating expenses, since the expected income from student tuition is not expected to cover the operating expenses, particularly for the next four years.

Third, helping to support development and growth programs

Since the primary objective of the University is to disseminate knowledge in Muslim societies and help them to develop in knowledge and culture, the University has made plans to do field research that will guide it regarding the best strategies to use in pursuing its goals. At the same time the University is planning to develop and augment all the options and capacities it has to fulfill its mission.

The projects which the University has come up with for its future development, and which are awaiting the necessary funding, are as follows:

1. Field research for ongoing assessment of the needs of Muslim societies and Muslim minority communities
   The University will use these surveys to find out the special needs of Muslim communities; based on those findings it will be in a better position to tailor the services of the teaching centers to meet those needs. It will also help crystallize the centers’ strategies to serve those Muslim communities. The University is striving to earmark 5% of its current operating and infrastructure budgets for these research activities.
   
   
2. Projects for upgrading the technical capacities and software systems of the University
   The University is striving to possess all the appropriate modern technology that will guarantee, by Allah’s permission, a constant upgrading of the University’s means of instruction. It will also give Muslim programmers and systems analysts the opportunity to produce programs and technical innovations that will help provide necessary services to the Muslim Ummah in all the areas of their needs. The University is keen to possess the latest technology and make it widely available in a way that will be of benefit to the Muslim world.
   

Ways to participate in supporting operational and research projects related to further development of Al-Madinah International University

• To sponsor in whole or in part the expenses of further developing the University’s Digital Library for the current year, 2008 CE, which amounts to $125,000 (exactly one hundred twenty-five thousand US dollars). 
• To contribute to the digitization of one or more academic books and making it/them available on-line, this process costs $100 (US dollars) for every 50 pages. 
• To contribute any book (hard or soft copy) so that it can be made available to the public via the University’s digital library. 
• To contribute to cover all or part of the shortfall in the operating expenses, which amounts to approximately $1,114,616 (one million one hundred eleven thousand six hundred sixteen US dollars).
• A one-time or multiple contribution or regular contributions for a certain number of years to help defray the expenses related to:
  o Field surveys to help the University fine-tune its planning.
  o Hardware and software upgrade projects.
