GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

To receive your certificate, you must satisfy requirements related to credits, cumulative grade point average (CGPA), and subjects. MEDIU maintains these requirements in accordance with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency Board (MQA).

As a student, you are responsible for ensuring that all requirements for your graduation are fulfilled in a timely manner. To assist you in this matter, the Registrar’s Office provides an online Academic Progress Report for each student, specifying all the requirements and indicating whether you have met the requirements and, if not, what you should do to meet those requirements.

Upon your submission, the Admission & Records Office will verify whether or not you have fulfilled all the necessary University requirements and accordingly confirm your graduation.

The graduation requirements for MEDIU courses are as follows:

arrow Undergraduate Programmes

To receive your bachelor’s degree from MEDIU, you are required to complete at least 120 credit hours. Within those total credit hours, you must complete:
  1. All University and Faculty subject requirements;
  2. Audit subjects, which are not given any credit hours; and
  3. The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) compulsory subjects (Only for Malaysian students).

arrow Credit hours.
There are five (5) types of credits hours

1. Credits earned:
These are the cumulative credits assigned for subjects registered, evaluated and passed, including credits transferred from within MEDIU. Graduation is granted only when you have completed the minimum number of credit hours earned and have taken all the required subjects as prescribed in a particular course.

2. Credits attempted:
These are computed by totalling the credit hours of all courses registered and evaluated.

3. Credits exempted:

These are credits hours earned based on exemption from taking certain courses. These credits are counted towards fulfilment of credit hour requirements.

4. Credits transferred from other academic tertiary institutions:
These are credits earned based on the transfer of subjects from other recognised institutions, which are counted towards the fulfilment of credit hour requirements. The Student Affairs Office is responsible for determining the acceptability of any transfer credits for a student.

5. Credits fulfilled:
These are total credits earned at MEDIU, exempted and transferred from other recognised institutions.

arrow Minimum Graduation Requirement
A student is considered as fulfilling the minimum graduation requirements after meeting the following criteria:

  • Have completed and passed all subjects as stipulated in the student’s course curriculum
  • Have a good academic standing with a CGPA of at least 2.00
  • Free from any negative report from the University Disciplinary Authorities or Office of the Deputy Rector (Student Affairs Division)

arrow Application for Graduation

One year prior to graduation, a student, with the academic advisor’s guidance, shall file for graduation and submit the application form to his / her faculty. Since degrees are not automatically awarded upon satisfactory fulfilment of graduation requirements, the student is also required to complete and submit an application for graduation to the Student Affairs Office at least one semester prior to graduation. The student will then be given an unofficial partial transcript to confirm the subjects he / she has taken throughout the course. The request form is available online at the Student Affairs section of the website.

arrow Full transcript

The full transcript typically contains the students’ academic record from the first semester they joined a course until they graduate. The full transcript is only released to graduating students after the University’s Senate has endorsed their status and they have completed and submitted the clearance form to the Student Affairs Office. The request form is available online at the Student Affairs section of the website. A nominal fee is charged for each copy of full transcripts. MEDIU shall not issue transcripts if a student’s record is withheld.

arrow Convocation

In honour of the students’ achievements in completing their studies, MEDIU holds annual convocation ceremonies which are held in designated venues, to be informed to students and parents in advance of the event.
