ASSESSMENT & EXAM POLICIES

General Assessment and Examination Policies

Your performance in all registered subjects is assessed based on Continuous Assessment and End-of-Semester examinations.
  1. Continuous Assessment
This is basically a process of assessing and evaluating your performance and learning achievement in a subject throughout the whole semester. It includes assignments, e-forum, projects, mid-term tests and any other requirements, as stipulated in each subject's syllabus.

  2. End-of-Semester Examination
All subjects have a common End-of Semester examination and it is centralised. You need to physically attend the examination at a designated learning centre. The faculty may prescribe conditions under which you may be exempted from final examinations, provided that such exemptions are based on grades received prior to the time of the final examination.

  3. Examination timetable
For common end-of-semester examinations, an examination timetable is issued before the final examination weeks. You are able to access the timetable online.

  4. Examination slip
You need to print your examination slip online. The examination slip contains relevant information of your examination schedule such as the date, time and venue of the examination and all subjects registered by you. You are required to show the examination slip to the assigned invigilators, at the designated learning centre closest to your place, on the day of the examination.

  5. Pass/Fail Option
Some subjects may have a pass / fail grading instead of a letter grade. MEDIU offers this option to pre-requisite and selected elective subjects

  6. Student performance
The evaluation of your performance is the responsibility and privilege of the faculty.

  7. Source of grade
For subjects with letter grade, the grade obtained is based on the overall performance in both the continuous assessment and the end-of-semester examination. The weight for both assessments is as specified in the syllabus of each subject.

  8. Grading System

  9. Absent from End-of-Semester Examination
If you are absent during an end-of-semester examination with valid reasons acceptable to MEDIU’s authority or due to medical conditions or emergencies, you will have to sit for a supplementary examination. If you are absent without valid reasons acceptable MEDIUs’ authority, you will have to repeat the subject.

  10. Supplementary Examination
This examination may be taken, at a nominal fee, if you fail a particular subject, or have been absent with valid reasons acceptable to MEDIU’s authority or due to medical conditions or emergencies.

  11. Work-in-progress (WIP) Grade
This is the grade given for courses that require independent research in which work is normally expected to continue beyond one semester.

  12. Subject withdrawal
The University’s withdrawal period is divided into three (3) segments:
    • arrow Period 1: weeks 1 through 3 of the semester
    • arrow Period 2: weeks 4 through 10 of the semester
    • arrow Period 3: weeks 11 through the last day of class during the semester

  13. Student on probation
If you obtain a CGPA below 2.00, you will be considered on probationary status and shall carry not more than fifteen (15) credit hours in the next immediate semester.

  14. Academic Deregistration
You shall be deregistered from MEDIU under any three (3) of the following situations:
arrow If your CGPA is less than 1.67
arrow If you fail to earn a CGPA of 2.00 or higher while on probationary status
arrow If you fail a course (with a grade F) on your third attempt
