ASSESSMENT & EXAM POLICIES

SUBJECT EXEMPTIONS

MEDIU practises consistency in its exemption policy and continuously strives to improve the quality of the exemption procedure. Below are the points you need to observe if you require exemption.

  1. Recognition Policy of Previous Studies
MEDIU must evaluate your previous studies before you can be granted any exemptions. The evaluation is carried out in consultation with MEDIU Board of Admission and in accordance with the guidelines as set by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).

As such, in order for the University to consider your application for exemption, you need to meet the criteria stated below:

    a. Assessment Component Mapping
The component of your previous studies must at least be partially exam based with a minimum assessment
        breakdown of:-

        • 50% coursework
        • 50% examination

You are required to present evidence of the breakdown by submitting your relevant certified
         documents to the Admissions Office.

    b. Institution of Higher Learning
The recognised (or accredited) institutions of higher learning where your previous studies were obtained
        are stated below in order/rank:

    • arrow Public institutions of higher learning
    • arrow Private institutions of higher learning
    • arrow Private non-profit institutions of higher learning

  2. Exemption Policy

    a. You may apply for exemption if you intend to pursue a MEDIU course but have taken other examinations with
subject(s) that are similar or equivalent to any of MEDIU’s subject(s).

    b. You may apply for specific modules to be exempted. However, exemptions are limited to a maximum of 50%
of the total subject credits for the award from which you are seeking exemption
    .

    c. MEDIU practises the “a credit earned is a credit gained” policy where you may apply to seek module-for-
module exemptions without having to complete a particular previous level of studies.

This policy embraced by MEDIU is based on the recognition that many students may choose to temporarily
cease their previous studies not because of the inability to cope but based on reasons such as:-

    • arrow financial difficulties
    • arrow family commitments
    • arrow different learning curves for each individual

We believe that such a policy will enable and facilitate us to heed the call for life-long learning.

    d. Your application for exemption(s) must be lodged with the Admissions Office and must be accompanied
by two certified true copies of:-

    • arrow Exemption Application Form
    • arrow National Registration Identity Card / Passport
    • arrow Award scroll (if any)
    • arrow Transcripts / results slip
    • arrow Course structure
    • arrow Detail syllabi
    • arrow Testimonials / references (where applicable)

The Admissions Office will retain a copy of the above, while the other set will be sent to the relevant
           faculty.

    e. The Assessment and Awards (Examinations) Committee will base their decision on the following criteria:-

    • arrow Similarity of learning objectives, learning outcomes and syllabus content
         (minimum 80% match)
    • arrow Assessment methods, procedures and weightage (coursework and / or examinations)
    • arrow Standard and level of award.
    • arrow Status of awarding institution.
    • arrow Accreditation by MQA or other recognised quality assurance agency / body.

The decision of the Assessment and Awards (Exams) Committee is final.

    f. Subject Exemption Fees

    • arrow here will be a nominal non-refundable fee of USD40 for purposes of administration
          and evaluation of the exemption.

    g. Once your application for exemption(s) is approved, an exemption fee will be levied for each exempted
subject. The exemption fee is also non-refundable if:-

    • arrow You subsequently change your mind and withdraw from the course for whatever reasons, or
    •    If you fail the rest of the subjects for which you have sat for examinations at a particular centre.
