Study modes of on campus and Online:

There is no difference between studying on campus and distance learning which is within the University premises, in terms of content, curriculum, records, educational activities, midterm and final exams, and other things underlying the education process, but the difference comes just from the point of methods and tools that are used in both distance learning and on campus. In order to clarify for the students both these modes of studies, we are providing this crucial information for illustrative purposes, we would like to make a simple comparison between the two difference systems, in terms of methods and tools:

In terms of personal presence:

It is well known that on campus students are personally required to attend the classes in a given ratio of time, to receive their education from the lectures directly, while in the distance learning /online students are required to have access to the internet and all learning tools are available with student’s hands. His/her computer is connected to a network connection. Technically the students will receive these procedures and learning methods from the date they get offer letter from the University .The online students are not required to attend class lectures, they are only required to sit for midterm and Final Exams only.

The curriculum:

The Method of on campus teaching is based on knowledge and information delivered by lecturers during the lecture only, it could sometimes be that the student cannot get enough time to ask question to the lecturer because most of the time is spent through the explanation of the subject. But online students have many choices to ask the questions to the lecturer in the following ways:

  1. Direct meetings with the lecturer of the subject via the Internet, during these meetings the Lecturer will not re-explain the subject but he/she will only listen to the questions from students and answer their questions.
  2. Ask questions via e-mail to the lecturer of the subject , which the student can access it through a  interactive management learning program (ALIM), and these queries are answered by the lecturer, and then sent to the student in the same way,  which is considered one of the best communication channels,  open  between the lecturer and his student.
  3. 3. Ask questions and solve problems through the forum which is allocated for each subject, and is open for all students in that specific subject.

Educational activities:

The on campus teaching mode is the process of commissioning activities in a manner often oral, and within limited frames. The process of delivery of such lecturing activities is done by hand directly, which is accompanied with some difficulties in terms of the process of organizing these activities and method of delivery.  As for distance learning (Online) in Al-Madinah International University is concerned,  It takes place through  interactive  management  system that sets both the lecturer and the student to arrange the performance of those activities on specific dates and multiple options, in order to show students’ skills  and capabilities, this process the student can be evaluated as following :

  1. Active participation in forums assigned by the lecturer on topics related to learning outcomes of the Subject, this gives an opportunity to the students to express their feelings and   show their capabilities both in written and oral.
  2. Perform the duties assigned by the lecturer on a weekly basis or by specific time period.
  3. Answer the test questions, exercises, short exams (one-hour) at least a week for each subject, and be able to recognize the correct answers immediately.
  4. (E-forum), the lecturer will  prepare topics related to learning outcomes of the material, each subject is allocated for one hour per week, setting records and the time to start  and finished the discussion with the students , and then the lecturer gives each student’s participation scores as he/she obtained.

This is the number of scientific activities per semester for each subject as follows:

* Forum (2 forums) at least.

*Assignments (3 assignments, at least).

* Exam (2 exams at least), and for all of these activities are 30% of course work for the semester.

Exams:

Examination process does not differ between on campus and online students. Al-madinah International University has two ways to evaluate the students as following:

  1. Mid-term exam in the middle of the semester; Students spend an hour at least for each subject, and the score for this test is (20) marks.
  2. Final test which is at the end of the semester, it takes at least two hours for each subject, and this test also is (20) Marks
