Executive Rules for Promotions(Academic Staff)

First: These Administrative Procedures are to be in-line with the Article 24 of Regulations for Faculty Members and construed as stated in the paragraphs of the text of this article which stated below:

Article 24:

  1. The faculty member with a degree of assistant professor or associate professor may apply for a promotion 6 months prior to the date of completing the legal period required for the higher degree if he/she meets the other legal conditions required for this degree.
  2. The date of promotion to a higher degree is the date on which the legal period ends.
  3. In all cases, the Senate decides on promotion within a period not more than 6 months from the recommendation date by the promotions committee.
  4. The promotion criteria in the university will be based on the following:
    a. Research and publication 37.5%
    b. Teaching and supervision 37.5%
    c. Academic excellence and leadership 10%
    d. Serving the university and society 15%
    Total

Second: Text of the Paragraph 1

3. The faculty member with a degree of assistant professor or associate professor may apply for a promotion 6 months prior to the date of completing the legal period required for the higher degree if he/she meets the other legal conditions required for this degree.

Administrative Procedures:

  1. It is hereby the right of any employee in the Academic Division in MEDIU who holds a PhD degree to request for promotion in accordance with rules and regulations stated herein.
  2. The right of promotion becomes void for faculty members when the following two conditions are not fulfilled:

a. The Employee should be free of any disciplinary matters

 

1. The employee’s record should be free of any disciplinary matters; resulting from poor professional performance (not less than three years)

2. The employee’s record should be free of any improper conduct inside or outside the university campus (not less than five years)

3. The employee’s record should be free of any unethical conduct inside or outside the university campus

 

b. Quality of performance

 

The employee who nominates himself for promotion must be of a high standard in terms of professional performance and this evident in the following points:

 

1. His good conduct with his superiors, colleagues and subordinates.

2. Adhere to the attendance regulations set by the University Rules.

3. Demonstration the ability to improve quality and minimize production cost, self integrity, and work performance with high professionalism.

4. Consistency in the work’s quality.

5. Readiness to accept responsibilities.

6. Ability to finish the required tasks on time and with the required adequacy.

7. Truthfulness and sincerity.

Third: Text of the Paragraph 2

4. The date of promotion to a higher degree is the date on which the legal period ends.

Administrative Procedures:

  1. The legal period of those who hold the title of Assistant Professor has to surpass a minimum of two years, since the date he was awarded with PhD title, before requesting for promotion nomination to be awarded Associate Professor Title.
  2. The legal period of those who hold the title of Associate Professor has to surpass a minimum of two years since the date he was awarded with “Associate Professor” title, before requesting for promotion nomination to be awarded a Professor title.

Fourth : Text of the Paragraph 3

5. In all cases, the Senate decides on promotion within a period not more than 6 months from the recommendation date by the promotions committee

Administrative Procedures:
1- Evaluation of candidates for promotion to the degree of Associate Professor
Candidates nominated for promotion shall be assessed by the Academic Promotions Committee in the case of promotion to the degree of Associate Professor and the Committee shall consist of:

3- Recommendation from Academic Promotion Committee

In case the promotion of the candidate has been recommended, the Academic Promotion Committee has to submit its recommendation to the Senate to take its appropriate decision on that matter.

4- The decision on Academic Promotion
The decision on Academic Promotion is enforceable since the date of the endorsement from the Senate in its minute, and the enforcement of the promotion shall not be linked to posts availability related in the University (MEDIU).

Fifth: Text of the Paragraph 4

4. The promotion criteria in the university will be based on the following:
