Short-Term Plan: 2009

OBJECTIVES

STRATEGIES

To build the research and development capabilities of the University.

We shall:

- Deliver training programs to enhance and increase awareness of staff research skills.

- Establish a more comprehensive reward system that motivates research practice.

- Enhance research infrastructure that are relevant to each faculty.

- Establish critical mass of researchers by creating research groups, by attracting post grads students, and by establishing more postgraduate fellowship schemes.

- Develop and implement staff recruitment strategies to support capacity building in research.

- Improve internal procedures of managing and accessing research grants.

- Communicate R& D issues to staff on a regular basis.

To establish an effective and efficient document and records management system.

We shall:

- Design and implement specialized systems for managing documents and records.

- Create university-wide policies and standards related to document and records management.

- Assign responsibilities and authorities within the document and records management systems.

- Establish and promulgate procedures and guidelines related to document and records management.

- Train and promote document and records management university-wide.

Establish and develop methods to enable measures of capabilities, outcomes and best practices across projects, programs and portfolios

We shall:

- Research, benchmark and train on methods to measure.

- Develop implementation plan based on assessment.

- Execute the implementation plan and start collecting data.


Mid-Term Plan: 2010 – 2012

Build a good reputation for the quality of scientific research.

We shall:

- Maintain a fixed annual rate for postgraduate students (Masters and Doctorate by way of research) during the period of 2010-2012.

- Establish key research positions.

- Publish a research bulletin for staff and students on a quarterly basis from January 2012.

- Establish and promote a collaborative and interdisciplinary research culture.

- Attract internal and external funding.

- Promote national and international networking.

Obtain additional quality management certifications for the University.

We shall:

- Identify appropriate opportunities for the University to achieve additional quality management certifications.

- Prepare plan to attain said certifications.

Assess and define the improvement plan of administrative activities.

We shall:

- Prepare for the assessment.

- Implement the assessment.

- Define the improvement plan.


Long-Term Plan: 2013-2015

Identify and develop commercialisation plan for relevant research projects.

We shall:

- Undertake commercialisation needs and opportunities assessment for all research projects.

- Develop commercialisation strategies agreements.

- Continue to introduce new market driven conventional courses.

Ensure effective technology transfer.

We shall:

- Produce and regularly update ‘Packages of Information’ to support technology transfer.

To reduce redundancy and automate manual steps for processes University-wide and to be a fully paperless University.

We shall:

- Evaluate and thoroughly analyze all business processes and standard operating procedures to identify unnecessary redundancies, etc.

- Work closely with related departments to streamline and automate all processes and procedure.

- Prepare a business case.

- Prepare a project plan for the approved solution.

Assess, define and implement a revenue generating plan.

We shall:

- Prepare for the assessment.

- Implement the assessment.

- Implement the improvement plan.

- Implement the revenue generating plan.
