KUALA LUMPUR-Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) appreciates the role of the media which plays an important role as a platform for higher education institutions (HEI) to convey information to the community.
MEDIU’s Chief Executive Officer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fadlan Mohd Othman said, articles and photos published by media practitioners should be documented and displayed as a reference for future generations.
He explained that the relationship between HEIs and media organizations today is very important in complementing each other’s needs and needs to be further strengthened.
“HEI and the media are two entities that cannot be separated and even need to be strengthened. This is because HEIs sometimes have personal views and knowledge but to convey to the public we do not have a strong medium such as the media.
“HEIs and the media can work in many things that can be conveyed such as expertise and academic services to the community other than if the media also wants to get opinions from lecturers who are experts on an issue.
“Besides that, the university has expertise in foreign language translation such as Arabic where lecturers are often called to conduct international forums,” he said.
MEDIU is currently setting up the Media@MEDIU Gallery at its main campus in Desa Petaling which brings together more than 100 news articles since its inception in 2007.
“We hope that the admission session next February intake, the gallery articles on display can be a reference and exhibition for new students and the public.
MEDIU currently has more than 4,000 students who are studying on campus conventionally and remotely or online in 90 countries with the provision of more than 80 academic courses that have been accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
MEDIU was established in 2007 as an international private university in Shah Alam before moving to Desa Petaling in 2018.
The university was established as a result of the collaboration between the Government of Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, as a waqf-concept university which was then known as a virtual or online university before starting on-campus(conventional) in 2010.
MEDIU’s mission is an Islamic-based education based on Islamic studies and Arabic to make Arabic the language of knowledge and restore its importance as the language of knowledge in the Islamic era. – MalaysiaGazette
