Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) which was established 13 years ago from the cooperation of the Malaysian Government under the leadership of Tun Abdullah Badawi and the Government of Saudi Arabia has succeeded in producing thousands of graduates in various fields including Arabic language, Islamic Studies, Finance, Engineering and others.

It is often considered as an external university that opens its branch in Malaysia when it is a local university recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

In fact, the institution of higher learning is a Malaysian private university.

It enlisted the services of scholars from Al-Azhar University, Egypt to prepare the academic syllabus in the field of Islamic Studies and Arabic language.

With the involvement of Sheikh Prof. Dr. Saad Nasser A. Al-Shathri as the Chairman of MEDIU Council and Advisor to the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud proved the commitment between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia to elevate MEDIU as a world-class Education center.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MEDIU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fadlan Mohd. Othman, MEDIU which was originally based in Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam for more than 10 years and now based in Desa Petaling, Kuala Lumpur is not just a university.

He said it was to boost the growing diplomatic relations between Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and even from Southeast Asian countries, other Arab countries and the African continent.

“The students here are not only from the locals but from all over the world. This is because they see Malaysia as a great country with great infrastructure and among the fastest growing Islamic countries.” he said when met at his office in Desa Petaling recently.

Fadlan said the university should continue to be defended by all parties to ensure that the country’s diplomatic and academic relations with Saudi Arabia in particular continue to be enhanced from time to time.

Regarding the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, as other educational institutions teaching and learning activities physically had to be on-hold until the Covid-19 cases minimize to a satisfactory level.

Fadlan said, since its establishment, this institution has placed great emphasis on teaching and learning activities until Covid-19 inhibited various activities, including social and economic since two years ago.

“We have thousands of students locally and globally as well as a dual mode university (online and conventional mode).

“We established a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) compliant learning system a decade prior to the presence of Covid-19 pandemic in all corners of the world,” he said.

The institution also has a world-class information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure that is capable of implementing degrees completely virtually.

Clearly, starting from the course selection stage, inquiries, student registration, payment of fees, teaching & learning, as well as to graduation can be done virtually.

“Therefore, MEDIU are the choice of students living abroad from Malaysia, as we are an economically friendly educational institution due to the affordable cost of studies,” he said.

More impressively, the library and syllabus facilities offered for all majors are accessible online to students from all over the world.

Commenting further, he said, foreign students do not have to come to Malaysia and have to adapt to the new culture as they can seek knowledge on their own without having to be here. We provide the facility to seek knowledge as easily as possible to ensure that it can be utilized in their lives.” he said.
