The 1st International Scientific Symposium for Arabic Language

Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) Centre of Excellence and Faculty of Languages co-organized with Research and Scientific Activities Committee at the Faculty of Arabic Language in Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University (UniSHAMS), Kedah recently organized ‘The 1st International Scientific Symposium for Arabic Language’ via Online on Monday, 22 March 2021 with the theme “The Contributions Of Scientific Institutions In Teaching Arabic To Non-Native Speakers, Experiences, And Aspirations”.

The symposium was officiated by the Symposium General Director; Dr. Abdul Ghani bin Md Din, Senior Lecturer of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University on the symposium objectives. Thus, followed by an opening speech from the Vice Chancellor of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University (UniSHAMS), Prof. Dr. Asmadi bin Mohamed Naim as the General Supervisor of the Symposium.

The first session was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rady Mohamed Elpaz Elsheakh from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University which witnessed presentations from Asst. Prof. Dr. Rusdee Taher (Prince of Songkla University, Thailand) on “The Experience of the Arabic Language Proficiency Test Center and Developing its Skills in Creating an Appropriate Learning Environment for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers”, Asst. Prof. Dr. Koussoube Issa (Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU), Malaysia) on “The Reality of Employing Modern Technologies in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers-Experiences and Suggestions” and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Babikir El Hag (Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah International Islamic University, Malaysia) on “Teaching Aptitude and its Role in Meeting the Needs of Educational Institutions”.

Meanwhile the second session was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omar bin Mohammed Din from Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) with presentations from Asst. Prof. Dr. Amin bin Mustafa Al-Shanqiti (Islamic University of Madinah-Saudi Arabia) on “The Educational Environment at The Institute for Teaching Arabic Language at the Islamic University of Madinah and its Role in Promoting Arabic Language Education for Non-Native Speakers”, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Hanash (Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University- Morocco) on “Arabic Language Tests for Non-Native Speakers: The Irfan Test as a Model” and Prof. Dr. Majdi bin Haji Ibrahim (Director of ISESCO Center for Arabic Language for Non-Arabic Speakers) on “The Contributions of the ICESCO Arabic Language Center for Non-Native Speakers to the Advancement of Arabic Language”. Both sessions included the presentation of feedback, suggestions and views as well as the experiences of the presenters.

Lastly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omar bin Mohammed Din mentioned the final recommendations approved by the Symposium Scientific Committees and a speech by the Honorable CEO of Al-Madinah International University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fadlan Bin Mohd Othman has concluded the symposium program.
