The Deputy CEO, Academic is a key member of the University’s senior leadership team, responsible for providing strategic academic leadership and supporting the Chief Executive Officer in achieving the University’s academic goals, quality standards, and institutional objectives.

 

POSITION : Deputy CEO, Academic

 

MAIN JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand, support, and promote the mission and vision of the University and provide institutional leadership on academic programmes development.
  • Serve as a member of the top management of the university and assist the CEO in strategic planning, decision making, crisis management, and communication.
  • Reviews reports to monitor, report, and make data-informed decisions regarding the status of academic programs and resource management (i.e. personnel resources, classroom resources).
  • Provides leadership for all faculty and staff within Academic Affairs by overseeing assigned personnel functions, including hiring recommendation, faculty, and staff evaluation, management of conduct and performance issues, and advising appropriately on personnel matters.
  • Supports the values of the university: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, research, publication, consultation, and creativity and service to the university.
  • Academic Planning and Management: Develop and implement academic plans and strategies aligned with the university’s mission and vision.
  • Oversee curriculum development, ensuring compliance with academic standards and regulatory requirements. Ensure the quality and integrity of academic programs through ongoing assessment and evaluation and implement quality assurance measures to maintain and ensure compliance with MQA’s accreditation and quality assurance standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Lead accreditation processes and maintain compliance with regulatory bodies and accrediting agencies.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Develop and update academic policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with best practices and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on educational trends, advancements, and changes in academic regulations and incorporate them into the University’s policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with other University administrators, departments, and external stakeholders to promote effective academic operations.
  • Foster partnerships with industry professionals, educational institutions, and relevant organizations to enhance academic programs and opportunities for students.
  • Represent the University at academic forums, conferences, and meetings to stay connected with the broader educational community.
  • Work closely with the Deputy CEO for Student Affairs and Deputy CEO Research & Innovation and other divisions in the university to facilitate effective and efficient communication across the divisions that facilitates student success.
  • Stay updated on changes in MQA regulations and guidelines and implement necessary updates to maintain compliance.
  • Determine the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and record, measure, and analyse the results and then take the necessary procedures to improve.
  • Monitor subordinates in the staff portal and allocate the tasks & workload among the employees of the department, prepare timelines, and set deadlines to complete those tasks.
  • Record attendance and daily tasks in the staff portal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications requirements for this position are:

  • Doctorate from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of relevant senior level professional experience in higher education academic affairs;
  • Proven strong managerial and collegial leadership in academic area, scientific research and student affairs;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of administrative support areas including fiscal, human resources management, and information technology;
  • Demonstrated positive leadership in developing collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies;
  • Successful experiences in conflict resolution and long‐range program planning;
  • Demonstrated understanding and leadership in issues concerning equal employment opportunity, student recruitment, retention and graduation, and advocacy.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the goals and philosophy of undergraduate, and graduate educational programs.
  • Able to communicate in both languages: Arabic and English, spoken and written.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Five (5) years in the management of programs and university’s academic matters.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a higher education setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures related to programme approval and accreditation, qualities standards and student records
  • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Demonstrated skill in respectful, sensitive communication with people who are diverse in their cultures, languages and abilities.
